A Writer's purpose can be determined either from his own explicit statement of purpose or from a literary analysis of his entire work. From his preface in Luke 1 : 1-4 one might conclude that it was the writer's aim to provide Theophilus with more exact information concerning events and circumstances of vital interest to early Christian communities. A thorough study of the twin-work suggests, however, a broader circle of readers, who are to receive further instruction and resources for evaluating especially theological issues.
